You can’t out exercise a bad diet

I ate and drank too much across the Easter long weekend and I really felt it this morning. A dead give-away that I’m out of routine and not making the healthiest food choices is lethargy and irregular bowels.

There was a significant increase in my exercise duration across the weekend (because what else is there to do during Isolation right?). However, my output was not able to meet the number of calories consumed, thus a slight increase in body weight too.

When it comes to out exercising a bad diet, the proof is in the pudding.

I’m realistic when it comes to a balanced lifestyle and I ALWAYS encourage the inclusion of comfort food and alcohol in small amounts, but after not feeling my best this morning this is EXACTLY what I have done to get back on track:

  1. Remove tempting foods from laying out - sorry but this includes chocolate!

  2. Drink lots of water to flush out your system – I normally aim for 2L per day, so today I will aim for 2.5L.

  3. Avoid foods containing gluten and dairy i.e. bread, cheese, cow’s milk. They will continue upsetting your tummy if they aren’t your everyday foods.

  4. Eliminate alcohol for a few days… hard during these times but you’ll feel better for it.

  5. Prepare a source of protein ahead of meal time. Protein keeps you nice and full, so today I cooked chicken for today and tomorrow’s lunch.

  6. Tell your family/ partner/housemate of your intentions so they can keep you accountable when you reach for that next snack.
